Some have asked about the possible weekend game "mashup/contest".

At one of the meetups, Wes (xna game designer) talked about one of the popular game developer/designer events – it could have been Toronto or San Fan. – not sure. A game "Jam" with artists/programmers collaborating on small game projects over a weekend.

So as a way of encouraging more St. Louis game making and networking, we could hold our own Game Jams.

Is this something people would be interested in?

It could be as informal as using the meetup and yahoo message boards to pick a weeked and place, then those interested can join in on the game jam. Or is someone is interested in organizing more formal event then let the group know. May be it's time for someone active on facebook to promote the idea and the game developer group.

If we go the informal route, then consider having it the 3rd weekend of each month at Pat's Bar and Grill (I know owners) on Oakland Ave. in Dogtown across from Turtle Park and Zoo. The message boards can be used to network and talk about projects and see who is interested - then show up on the weeked with laptops ready to JAM.
All game types and formats would be welcome. The programmers would pick the various engines, then the teams would design and create games. As much as we could, we would follow the structure and framework for the major Game Jams.
